Waluga Booster Club Meeting: November 9, 2011

October 12, 2011 meeting minutes were approved.

 

Principal Report: Jennifer Schiele

-          Scenario B planning – looking at everything from traffic to lockers and curriculum.

• Super SAC put in place – they’ll send out a survey to ListServe to gather information and help make decisions
• Get updates by clicking the “B” under news on the Waluga Home page

-          With Unauction funds, we’ve purchased 11 iPads, all the science kits and all the books on the wish list.

Treasurer Report: Kacy Bliss

-          Reviewed the current budget

-          Kacy to send Jennifer S. the Unauction submissions so she can send thank yous

-          Upcoming expenses

• Directory
• Will purchase 9 more iPads and covers
  • Motion to approve & second

-          Nicole to report numbers for eScript next month

• Directions to sign up for eScript were in the Weekly Newsletter

-          Nicole to track Lambs gift card proceeds

 

VP Report: John Parke

-          Magazine sales came in at $10K – Waluga gets 45%

• More proceeds will come in throughout the year from online sales
• Cookie dough will be in November 15

 

Other Business

-          Directory is almost completed

-          Booster Website: Kurt Sussman will train the board how to upload

-          Lori Norstrom will chair the 8^th grade celebration

• She will survey the 8^th graders to see what they want

-          Phoebe Reeves will chair Stage Night

-          Brainstormed other fundraising ideas, which included:

• Civil War – have money jars: Beavers vs. Ducks
• Golf tournament – Christine Hardy is looking into it
• Susie Restic is working with restaurants
• Unauction – provide signs during drive through to remind parents

- Foundation: Patty Farrell needs volunteers for phone-a-thon, March 5-8

Treasurer Report: Kacy Bliss

-          Reviewed the current budget

• Jennifer Schiele approved the budget
• Nicole Kuhnert motioned to approve

-          The $6K in Unauction donations will be distributed as follows:

• $1000 for books
• $1000 for science kits
• $4000 for iPads
  • Becki Sass motioned to approve
    • Nicole Kuhnert second the motion

 

Volunteer Coordinator Report: Becki Sass

-          We have lots of lunch volunteers

-          Need volunteers for:

• Lipsynch
• Publicity for Unauction
  • Christina Hardy to ask
• Eighth grade celebration
  • Possibilities: Karen McLaughlin and Dana Hanley
• Teacher hospitality
  • Possibilities: Hillary Olson and Sherry Richards

 

VP Report: John Parke

-          Magazine sales are down across the nation; possibly because people get their information/read magazines online

• We’ve made more than $3K so far; $1K better than LOJ

 

Other Business

-          Brainstormed other fundraising ideas, which included:

• Movie night
• Reader board rental (for birthdays, special occasions, etc.)
• [blank]-a-thon (e.g. dance, jog, rock)
• Principal for a day
• Party boards
• Rummage sale

June 7, 2011 minutes were approved.

 

Principal Report: Jennifer Schiele

-          Smooth first week of school this year for incoming 7^th graders; 8^th graders provided amazing leadership

-          Back-to-school night is next Thursday, September 22

-          Un-Auction:

• Wish list for:
  • iPads
  • Science kits (add to un-auction communications)
• Nicole to have table at back-to-school night with un-auction flyers
• Un-auction iPad Video will be shown at back-to-school night

-          Funds from last year’s magazine sales were used to purchase a PA System

 

Treasurer Report: Kacy Bliss

-          Reviewed last year’s P&L statement

• We have an ending balance of $14,476.45

-          Need budget for Teacher Appreciation

 

Volunteer Coordinator Report: Becky Sass

-          Need volunteers for directory

• Jennifer S. to look into resources
• Becky to look into people who offered office support
• We will have directory forms at back-to-school night

 

-          Add to Friday Letter: volunteer positions that need to be filled

• Need hospitality volunteers for:
  • Conference lunch
  • End of year lunch
  • Possible “Meet the Parents” night
    •  Needs to be structured so that people mix
  • Volunteer to update Booster Club website
    • Lois to look into resources
